Changes: To the US Soccer landscape and here at Deep Run

Deep Run Families,

As you may be aware U.S. Soccer will be implementing two major changes that will impact youth soccer across the country. These changes are ‘Small Side Match Standards’ and ‘Birth Year Registration’. These changes take effect at the beginning of the 2016/2017 season and will impact youth soccer at the local, regional and national level.

For a full explanation of U.S. Soccer’s initiatives please see the link:

Our goal at Deep Run is to clearly communicate how we will implement this transition and provide information that will answer questions on how this move to birth year teams and small sided games may impact your experience at Deep Run.

Therefore, beginning in the fall of 2016/17 we will no longer offer travel soccer at the U8 age group, U9-U10 will play 7v7 and U11-U12 will play 9v9 and U13 and up will play 11v11. All players will be required to register/tryout for age appropriate teams/programs by birth year. Decisions on playing up will be made at the individual level by Deep Runs technical staff.

Additionally, this change in the soccer landscape has provided us the opportunity to make changes to our programming and coaching structures. All of these changes are being made with the player in mind, to enhance their experience, create a love for the game and foster an environment in which player development is first and foremost. Some of these changes can be shared at this time:

  • We are rebranding ourselves as Deep Run FC Bucks North to further emphasize our relationship with FC Bucks. Our relationship with FC Bucks was many years in the making and was finalized in 2015. We entered into the agreement with following goals in mind; to provide our players access to leagues and tournaments that the Deep Run name alone would not have done, to provide Elite level training close to home, to attract players from nearby communities to grow our numbers, to gain access to the coaching resources of FC Bucks, and provide entry into the ECNL for our Elite players.

  • Beginning with the 2016/17 season ALL competitive U13 and younger teams will be trained by a licensed trainer who does not have a child on the team.

  • At the youngest ages we are moving to an academy style with each program assigned a technical director and coordinator. U5-U6 will now be known as the “Dinomites”, U7-U8 will become the “Imagineers”. At this level all games will be played in house, however, there may some occasions where the “Imagineers” will participate in Festivals with other clubs. The emphasis will solely be on the individual player.

  • At U9 and U10 players will have the opportunity to join the “Aces” or play “Rec” (formally intramurals).

  • At U11 and above a player can choose between “Rec”, “Deep Run Classic”( traditional local travel), or FC Bucks North (Elite Level Travel)

  • Starting this spring we will offer more camps and clinics utilizing our technical staff and affiliates.

  • Starting in the fall of 2016 we will offer Rec Plus. This is a program tailored to the player who does not want to commit to travel soccer but wants to have access to Elite level training.

This transition brings challenges, however, it also brings an opportunity. As a club we are excited for this transition as it is an opportunity to provide our players the most competitive training and playing environments for development both as players and as people.

Thank you for your support of Deep Run.
